(Correspondent:Na Li) On December 8th, 2016, the final report of the 8thPostgraduateAcademic Annual Academic Conference of College of Chemistry was ceremoniouslyheld at academic lecture hall, located at the fifth floor of the chemicalbuilding.Prof. Fan Xia was invited to be the chairman of the jury, and 11teachers were invited to be judges, including Aidong Zhang, Wenjing Xiao,Shenghua Liu, Jian Wan, Lizhi Zhang and HongyingZhong.Moreover, Jun Yang, thesecretary of College of Chemistry, and Zuming Liu, the graduate studentcounselor, attended the conference.
The academicreport punctually began at 8:30 am, with Shenghua Liu, the vice president ofCollege of Chemistry acting as the host. After the presidentWenjing Xiaodelivered an address, "Young Thousand Talents Program" Prof. Fan Xia,from China University of Geosciences, made a special lecture report--Non-1:1 Biomolecules Testing. During the report, Prof. Fan Xia shared his ownresearch processwhich contained both splendidness and bitterness and he madewishes to the competition.
The finalsbetween doctoral students began at 10 am. These six doctoral students, selectedfrom the semifinals, were all passionate. Presumably, they had experienced suchscenes many times. After some competitions, in the end, thedoctoral student Renyu Qu from Prof.Guangfu Yang’s group, attained judges’praises and also won the first prize among doctoral students ofthe postgraduateacademic annual conference.
At 13:00 pm, thejudges went to the lobby of the first floor and scored on the posters. For bothdoctor group and master group, there were six students selected to be thewinners respectively.
The competitionbetween master students began at 13:30 pm, with 13 excellent studentsparticipating in. Kailu Zheng studying in organic chemistry made a perfectpresentation, which aroused great cheers. Particularly, Zhe Zhang studying inanalytical chemistry delivered an English speech and Prof. Xiao was so excitedthat they even communicated with each other with English fluently. Through thedrastic competition about three hours, top three were determined to beKailuZheng, Zhe Zhang and Jingjing Zhang, and they shared the first prize amongmaster students. Besides, it was the tradition that the new master studentsshould also made a presentation. Peng Zhao and Xiaotong Wang, who gained thenewcomer award, possessed the sprite—“Newborn calves are not afraid of tigers”and they were convinced to go better and farther on the road of scientificresearch.
After thecompetition, Prof. Fan Xia made a comprehensive comment on the academic reportsof the annual conference. He praised that the most important feature of thisannual meeting is the equality between men and women and he highlighted that thecombination of Chinese and English did show the international scope. Actually, hethought each competitor had performed pretty great, with the bright coursewares,the outstanding ability of language organization, the substantial reportcontents and the concise answers. At the same time, he cited Shirakawa Hideki,the winner of 2000 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to tell students how to work on theacademic report and how to report their own scientific research wonderfully.Only when you are able to allow alayman to understand the report, can yourreport be successful. At length, he encouraged students to study in scientificresearch earnestly and then you would harvest quite a lot.
The 8th Annual AcademicConference of College of Chemistry was officially kicked off on November 3rd.The annual conference activities included the well-known invited scholar’sreport, postgraduate academic reports, conference papers and poster displays. 72master students and 20 doctoral students from different research groupsparticipated in the academic report activities. The report was divided intopreliminaries, semi-finals and finals. 79 posters were received in the posterdesign contest and 72 conference papers were collected in the annual conferencepaper. The academic conference totally lasted for one month and finallysuccessfully ended. The conference was great supported by graduate school,graduate union, teachers and students of College of Chemistry, thus presentingthe colorful, distinctive and prominent academic feast.
